The Launch of our Pilgrim’s Path Project
Hello, my name is Phillippa Wright and on Sunday 6 th July I became the new curate for Kington with Huntington, Kinnerton, Old Radnor and Titley. The word curate comes from the Latin word curare meaning “to take care of” or “to look after.” In the early church the word came to mean a clergy person who was in charge of the spiritual care of the parish.
Leading up to my ordination on the 5 th July, I had been on retreat with my fellow ordinands at the Bishop’s Palace in Hereford. During this time, we were thinking about what it means to be human beings. We are all far more than just the sum of our biological parts, we have minds and spirits which are all combined within a human soul. Each of us is unique and loved by God. As your curate my job is to assist Rev’d Sally Welch in the care of everyone who resides within the Kington group, from baptism to burial.
I was baptised on my first birthday at St Michael’s Church in Abberley, a small village just over the border in Worcestershire. My dad came from a farming family and my mum did odd jobs, later training to be a GP dispenser. I currently live in Leominster with my husband and son and so will be commuting to Kington through out the week. If you see me getting a coffee or some lunch, please say hello. I look forward to serving in Kington and neighbouring parishes.
